Advantages of using a mask made of Polypropylene:

• Non-woven technology guarantees better barrier properties than cotton, polyester, or even more advanced woven fabrics.

• Polypropylene is the primary material used in the construction of surgical masks 

• Good breathability 

• Considered to be the safest of all plastics, this is a robust plastic that is heat resistant.

• Less risk of contamination after the using of disposable non-woven than reusable products either woven or knitted.

• It has good chemical resistance over a wide range of bases and acids.

• High fluid resistance 

• PP is known for being a versatile and durable thermoplastic that is lightweight and extremely rugged. 

• PP is highly impermeable. This property is essential for total immersion applications in medical and industrial applications.

*We would not recommend the use of homemade face masks as a method of reducing transmission of infection from aerosol.

FDA does not object to the marketing and distribution of face masks in the healthcare setting without prior 510(k) clearance if the product is labeled in the following manner:

• We recommend against use in a surgical setting or where significant exposure to liquid bodily or other hazardous fluids may be expected;

• We make no claims of antimicrobial or antiviral protection;

• We make no claims of infection prevention or reduction;

• We make no claims regarding flammability

• The labeling contains a list of the body contacting materials.

• The mask is not labeled as a "surgical mask"; rather it may be labeled as a "face mask"

In addition, FDA does not intend to object to marketing of masks that meet the above criteria even if they are manufactured at facilities that do not meet 21 CFR 820.
